Several PA universities receive non-credible threats; state police investigating

Multiple universities in Pennsylvania, including Shippensburg University, received calls on Sunday regarding threats on their campuses. Shippensburg University reported that its police department interacted with an unknown caller who provided vague information about a threat that lacked accurate details about the campus. Other police agencies received similar calls, but the caller hung up before further information could be gathered.

Law enforcement conducted searches on the campus, determining that there was no credible threat. The university notified students about police activity, clarifying that no "active shooter" alert was issued. Shippensburg University confirmed it was one of several universities in Pennsylvania to receive such calls, and the Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating the situation. Students were assured that no "active shooter" alert was issued during the incident. More information can be found on Shippensburg's Facebook page.

Multiple HBCUs Go On Lockdown in Response to Threats

At least seven historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) across the United States enacted lockdown procedures on Thursday due to threats received. Among these was Southern University and A&M College in Louisiana, which requested individuals on campus to shelter in place in response to a “potential threat to campus safety.” The lockdown affected various entities within the university, including the Southern University Law Center.

The lockdown was lifted later that afternoon, but all classes and campus activities were canceled through the weekend. Alabama State University reported a “terroristic threat,” causing them to shut down the campus while law enforcement conducted checks. Virginia State University also went on lockdown as local and federal authorities assessed the credibility of a threat.
